Mary Jo's Story
Life
I pursued my dream of becoming a journalist and worked at newspapers large and small throughout the country. I've worked as a writer, editor, copy editor, photographer, picture editor and designer.
My most exciting and challenging job was in California, where I was a picture editor for the San Jose Mercury News, one of the top ten newspapers in the U.S. I was part of the staff when it won a Pulitzer Prize in news reporting for coverage of the Loma Prieta earthquake.

e has two children. My grandchildren are my heart and I am happy to now be living in rural Southern Indiana just minutes away from them. They're the brightest, cutest children in the world and they keep me young--well, young-thinking, anyway.
After retirement I decided to pursue studies in anthropology and art history, hoping to combine the two with my experience as a photographer somehow. I was advised to take a studio art class so I would understand the process but one drawing class was all it took to hook me. I continued with the studio classes and art is now my chosen profession. A small sample of my work is exhibited at the Artisan Center of Harrison County in Corydon and at the Blue River Cafe in Milltown.
